Today, all around the world, people are remembering all those who have been brutally murdered and mutilated for simply living their lives. On Transgender Day of Remembrance, Plaid Cymru Ifanc stands in solidarity with those who have suffered from intolerance, in Wales and across the world.
Transsexual people continue to suffer from scandalous levels of hate crime on a daily basis. In many countries, being transgender is still considered a mental illness, while in others it is impossible to officially change a person’s gender and name. In Wales, many people suffer from discrimination in the workplace, from verbal and physical abuse and from a general ignorance misunderstanding of their situation, just for being transgender.
Plaid Cymru Ifanc, while commemorating the hundreds of transgender people attacked and murdered this year, fights to change this deplorable situation to create a more tolerant, accepting and cohesive society.
