Wales & The World

Brexit and a ‘People's Vote’

We believe that a so-called ‘People’s Vote’ should be held prior to ‘Brexit Day’, and that everybody over the age of 16 should have their say. We believe that Brexit is inherently harmful to Wales and Young People, and that a Hard Brexit would be at the detriment of our futures, and as such we should demand our democratic right to express any potential change of opinion.

In support of Catalonia

Plaid Ifanc support Catalonia in their fight for independence, and condemn the Spanish State for their actions on the day of the Independence Referendum, as well as their jailing of politicians and civic society leaders. We also believe that the presence of a legal team from the extreme right-wing political party, VOX, in the trials of these political prisoners is unacceptable. We reinforce our support for the Catalan People, and our sister party Jovent Republicà.

To support the cause of Self-Determination for the Saharwi People and the Independence of Western Sahara (SADR)

Plaid Ifanc condemn the annexation and occupation of Western Sahara by Morocco, and express our support for a free and fair referendum to be held on the issue of Western Saharan independence, in solidarity with the SADR and the Sahrawi People.

To support Ukraine in its Defence against Invasion by the Russian Federation

Plaid Ifanc formally condemn the actions of the Russian Federation and President Vladimir Putin in Ukraine, and call for his arrest. We also formally commend Ukraine for its resistance against aggression in the defence of its fundamental rights, and express our solidarity with its people. We also commend the many individual citizens of the Russian Federation who continue to speak out and resist their Government's attempts to silence dissent and offer our solidarity. We express our deep sorrow and grief for all those who have lost their lives in the War, and offer our continued support for any Ukrainian refugees here in Wales.

Associate Citizenship of the EU

Plaid Ifanc support calls for Wales to have Associate Citizenship of the EU, allowing Wales easier access to the markets and institutions of the EU, and increased freedom of movement for its citizens.

Support for the Kurdish Hunger Strikes

The Kurdish People and Communities should be granted the same fundamental language rights that we are granted here in Wales, and Plaid Ifanc supports any effort to achieve this. We condemn the continued Human Rights abuses of the Turkish State, and the isolation of the founder of the Kurdish Workers Party (PKK), Abdullah Öcalan. We fully support the Kurdish communities global Hunger Strike, in particular those in Wales, and call for an end to the discrimination faced by the Kurdish People.
