Today is International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women - also known as White Ribbon Day, a global movement to put a stop to male violence against women and girls

Violence against women is a consequence of discrimination against women - including trans women, in law and also in practice, and of persisting inequalities between men and women.

To all the women who have been hurt and abused, it is not and never has been your fault.

Men and boys have a crucial role to play in creating a culture where male violence, abuse and harassment against women and girls are simply seen as unacceptable.

Violence against women and girls is not inevitable. Prevention is possible — and essential.
